1929 41/2 litre Le Mans Bentley

With original Van den Plas coachwork this Bently has had only five owners from new. It's first owner, Gordon Sutherland, owned the Aston martin car company for several years before and after World War Two.

The car has its original engine chassis and bodywork. The wiring has been completely renewed with a period replacement cotton braided loom.

In May 2006 John Ormiston and this car participated in the Mille Miglia Rally in Italy.

The original C-type gear box was replaced years ago with the more desirable D Type box as fitted to the racing Bentleys.

A former owner upgraded the engine and under its current ownership the clutch, dynamo, starter motor and carburettas have all been refurbished.

The car represents a very original car but with sensible and non obtrusive improvements to make it a joy to drive. For the past 40 years it regularly toured in France for six weeks and has recently made trips to Le Mans for the Classic races. The car's file contains the original VDP build sheet; a copy of the factory records relating to the car from 1929 to 1933; articles by Gordon Sutherland in which the car is frequently mentioned; obituaries of Gordon Sutherland and Tom Ryland (former owners and invoices relating to work done on the car over the last 2 years.

1954 2 Litre Swallow Dorretti Tourer

Only 267 of these cars were made, all in 1954-5. The engine is a TR2 2 Litre and the style of the body is very similar to the Austin Healey 3000.

This example was purchased in South Africa and shipped back to the UK. It had started life in Rhodesia and still has it's Rhodesian tax disc on the windscreen.

A good starter and runner and good fun in the summer.
